At the heart of the dutch caribbean, Queen Beatrix International Airport continues to evolve as a critical driver of economic growth and connectivity for the Island of Aruba.

Operated by Aruba Airport Authority N.V., the Queen Beatrix International Airport serves as a vital hub linking the region to North and South America as well as to Europe.

Passenger volumes have grown significantly, while technological advancements, evolving International Civil Aviation Organization standards, and increasingly stringent security requirements continue to change the aviation landscape. Against this backdrop, Aruba Airport Authority is positioning its primary gateway as modern and welcoming environment that reflects the island’s identity and at the same time meets international expectations.

With nearly two decades having passed since the last major infrastructure upgrade, the organisation has embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment programme designed to meet the demands of modern air travel while supporting the island’s long-term economic ambitions.

GATEWAY 2030

Central to Aruba Airport Authority’s current trajectory is the Gateway 2030 programme, a multi-year investment exceeding $275 million aimed at transforming the airport into a world-class facility. This initiative represents one of the most significant infrastructure developments in the island’s recent history and underscores the strategic importance of aviation to Aruba’s economy.

Gateway 2030 is designed to address capacity constraints while enhancing the overall passenger experience. The programme includes the development of a new terminal built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, expanded check-in facilities, enhanced United States preclearance capabilities, and the addition of new contact gates to accommodate increasing passenger numbers.

Progress has already been demonstrated with the completion of Phase 1A in April 2025. This phase introduced a technologically advanced United States check-in terminal, delivering improved efficiency and sustainability. A key feature of this upgrade is a state-of-the-art baggage handling system capable of processing up to 2,000 bags per hour, significantly enhancing operational performance.

Momentum continues with the launch of Phase 1B, which focuses on expanding capacity, comfort, and convenience within the departures area. This phase includes the construction of three new gates equipped with boarding bridges, additional bus gates, expanded hold rooms, and improvements to passenger flow and circulation.

Construction activity is already visible, with structural development progressing and new facilities beginning to take shape.
